Here are five things I did to go viral with my 2025 Hyperlapse Showreel, with a little bonus tip at the end.
- Firstly, I shot and edited some absolutely sickening hyperlapses.
You can learn how to make those yourself with my free e-book or The Ultimate Timelapse Course. - I then masked out a bunch of the elements of these hyperlapses and animated their motion.
Instead of boring, linear motion, I used the Flow plugin to ensure dynamic, smooth flowing visuals with an easy to use GUI. - You can also use this Flow plugin to animate the speed keyframes in After Effects, which leads to better speed ramping.
- Speaking of speed, that’s what you would describe my shooting process with my modified gimbal vest. I have a lot of content about this in The Ultimate Timelapse Course, which has recently been updated with 23 new videos and two new modules, including a 13 part module all about the planning, shooting, and editing of this 30 second showreel!
- I also liberally used the Mr Horse Animation Composer to apply transitions and other motion effects. This is a paid, subscription based plugin which isn’t cheap, but in my opinion if you’re working in the industry it’s a no brainer.
One of the things I love about it is the amount of Shake transitions which you can use to add some power to buildings moving into place for example. Here’s what it looks like with and without the shake. - It also comes with a ton of Sound Effects, which is the next layer I added to my edit. I paired it with sounds I found on free sound dot org to create this monster timeline. Here is the edit one more time without any music at all, so you can really focus on what’s going on with the sound.
- Bonus tip: To speed up your editing with all these plugins and other actions, you can install and use the free FX Console plugin from Video Copilot. I use it to trigger the Warp Stabiliser for example, or to grab screen grabs to send into Photoshop.

By the way, if you’ve wondered where I’ve been on this channel. I took a break due to a creative lull and a big frustration about how this channel works. It’s simply quite frustrating to put over a decade of your life into a channel like this and to alwaaaays struggle for views.
